Regulations about FFP2 disposable mask on work places
Our disposable shell masks are a PPE classified FFP2 according to european regulation EN 149:2001+A1:2009. Let's see in detail what it means.
Certification EN 149 for Respiratory protective devices
The regulation EN 149:2001+A1:2009 replaces the EN 149:2001 and concerns respiratory protective devices and filter masks against particles, establishing performance requirements, tests and markings.
This directive divides the devices into disposable, which must be marked "NR" (non-reusable), and reusable, which must be marked "R" when they can be cleaned and sanitized, and then reused.
Each of these devices is subject to specific tests, such as the dolomite dust clogging requirements (optional for single use devices and mandatory for reusable devices), according to which, if positive, a good level of breathability is guaranteed even with very high dust concentrations in the environment. In this case the devices must be marked 'D'.
The european regulation EN 149:2001+A1:2009 divides masks into three classes FFP (Filtering Face Piece) according to their level of filtering efficiency:
- Class FFP1: protect from non-toxic aerosol, like dusts, iin concentrations up to four times the threshold limit value (TLV). They have a filtering efficiency of 80%;
- Class FFP2: protect against low and medium toxicity aerosols in concentrations up to 10 times the TLV. They have a filtering efficiency of 94%;
- Class FFP3: protect against aerosols up to high toxicity and radioactive aerosols in concentrations up to 30 times the TLV. They have a filtering efficiency of 99%.
All FFP1, FFP2, FFP3 masks are marked CE and their conformity is assessed by a Notified Body
Regulation (UE) 2016/425 related
to personal protective equipment
The European Regulation 425 of 2016 applies to personal protective equipment (PPE) establishing the design and manufacturing requirements. It also establishes rules concerning the free movement of PPE in the European Union. These devices must ensure the protection of the health and safety of users.
CE CAT III
Category III PPE are devices of complex design designed to protect the worker from risks more or less controllable by the subject, which may lead to death or serious and permanent injury.
Precisely because of the important protection for which they are designed, these devices must be delivered to users only after they have been trained in their correct use.
- What does Category III PPE protect against?
- Irritating, dangerous, toxic or radiotoxic gases;
- Substances and mixtures dangerous to health;
- Chemical aggression and ionising radiation;
- Harmful biological agents;
- Atmospheres with oxygen deficiency;
- High temperature environments with effects comparable to those of an air temperature of at least 100°C;
- Low temperature environments with effects comparable to an air temperature of -50°C or lower;
- Falls from above;
- Electric shocks or dangerous electrical voltages;
- Drowning;
- Portable chainsaw cuts;
- High pressure jets;
- Bullet or knife wounds;
- Noxious noise.
