Face Masks
When I wear a face mask, am I protect against infection risks? What if I wear waterproof masks?
Surgical face masks have a bacterial filtration efficiency equal to 95%. This type of masks was developed mainly to protect the people around the wearer. As a matter of fact, the wearer is not fully protected from the virus since the shape of the device does not adhere completely to the face.
Waterproof masks too, in the same way, do not guarantee full protection against Covid-19.
To have better protection, the WHO suggests not to ignore hand sanitizing or gloves use, to keep social distancing from people around us and to avoid touching your eyes or mouth.
If I wear two masks at once, am I safer?
Facial masks protect against the spread of Coronavirus, but wearing more than one at the same time is useless. The CE certification guarantees safeness when wearing one mask per time, and not more than one, since correct breathing might not be guaranteed.
It is otherwise important to adopt hygiene measures other than facial mask use or hand sanitizing, such as hand sanitizers or disposable gloves. Moreover, it is a duty to use facial masks in a rational way, in order to avoid the waste of important resources.
Are face masks a PPE?
Surgical face masks are a medical device, classified as a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). “Medical Devices” refers to devices used in a medical environment to protect the health worker from an infectious patient, and vice versa the patient from a possibly infected health worker.
