Face masks and children
What kind of mask is right for children?
Children under 6 years of age are not required to use face masks. Children above 6 years can use the same masks available to adults, i.e. surgical, washable or FFP2 masks, of a smaller size. The mask should be worn indoors or when it is not possible to maintain a distance of at least one meter. Children under 2 years of age must not wear the mask, as well as those who have respiratory problems and are unable to remove the mask themselves.
How to put a mask on a child and then take it off?
The mask must be put on and taken off from the sides, by the earloops, without touching the fabric part, especially the inner part in contact with nose and mouth. The same rule applies to children, but if they are not able to wear it on their own, it will be the responsibility of their parents or an adult to help them by following the correct procedure.
Do children have to wear the mask?
Children should only wear face masks if they are older than 6 years of age. However, it is not forbidden for younger children to wear the mask, as long as they are more than two years old. In addition, it is not recommended that those who are not self-sufficient in removing airway protective devices wear them, especially if they suffer from respiratory disorders. Children with serious illnesses at high risk of infection should be protected using FFP2 masks, not surgical masks. Family members, on the other hand, if infected, should also use surgical masks at home to protect family members.
